Creating in Groups
January 3-10, 2018
Trained and untrained musicians gather for seven days to explore writing music together. Through daily quiet time, group composition workshops, informal performances, personal composition time, group talks, personal meetings, and preparing and sharing meals together, participants experience creating in a group.
Participants will work in small groups, everyone writing for voice and hand percussion, and performing each other's works in informal performances. Daily quiet time and focused meetings support the creative work. Meeting topics will include listening exercises, group dynamics, music-writing techniques, and strategies for moving through creative blocks. No prior musical training necessary.
Fee: $850 includes all meals and a single room with shared bathroom.
The staff of Tony Geballe, Dev Ray, Erin Rogers, Frank Sheldon, and Craig Shepard draw from experience teaching Alexander Technique, participating in and organizing Guitar Craft and Guitar Circle Courses, and creating as part of groups in Wandelweiser, thingNY, and the theater group La Compagnia de' Colombari.
